fresh pasta

Inspired by Cranks cookbook and forced by the circumstances (people for dinner) I made an effort and made my first pasta ever. It is hard work, but doing it in front of the public was motivating. So the book says you need an egg for each 100g of pasta flour. I used 5 eggs giving me the amount of pasta sufficient for two dinners. One batch I made into butternut squash mascarpone and spinach lasagna. The rest is still drying on my fantastic sideboard. For lasagna, it is easy and quick - just roll it thinly and cut into rectangles. The pappardele were more of a challenge. I used the support of the beautifully illustrated The Geometry of Pasta but I don't think I went as thin as 0.5mm, you need a pasta machine for that.
Good experience, 5 star lasagna and yes I'll do it again and again and again!

Avon Valley Ride

On a gloomy Saturday morning we dressed up as simple folk and off we went for a steam train ride (we were aiming for a pre-WW II look). Inspired by Marta's blog I decided we have to take as many good pictures as possible. I am proud of the output and guys believe me - no photoshop!
OK, beforehand we locked ourselves out of the house (had to pay £90 for locksmith) and waited for 1.5 hour in the rain. But it was worth it.

freecycle treasures II

We got this sideboard on freecycle and I think this is something.  The quality of finishes, the proportions and just look at those handles! It was only three legged, so what? That makes it even more precious. Now you tell me what you think.

Slowly my house gets this skip look.

perfect breakfast

These are the best scones I have ever had. The recipe comes from my friend's mother and I treasure it similarly to the brownies recipe I have from her. Baked for generations, eaten for breakfast on Sundays - purely Irish. Serve with raspberry jam, whipped cream / crème fraîche / greek style thick yogurt.

roman baths

"In Roman times baths were not only the place for relaxation and body care, but places to meet people make friends and business" - quotation after audio guide in Roman Baths Visitors Centre.

fun of the day

Now. Get ready for it.

Do you find it comforting? Is it how you deal with your emotions? Frustrated? Not enough fun with your kids? Help you focus? Need a break?

The snake who eats its tail. The perfect wheel of balance and pure potentiality. Balancing the chakras. Meditating on reincarnation. Embracing life. Being one with the whole universe.
You will never know...

Yes! Florian got a job. FloYoga.

imieniny II

We celebrate a lot in May, best time during the year. Now searching the web for meat free Le Creusset recipes, Julia Child won't help in this matter.

santosha

Ease of the heart. Contentment is a requirement for peace of mind. It is mental decision, a moral choice, a practiced observance. It is a natural state of humanness and our divinity. It is knowing our place in the universe at every moment.

Back on the mat for the weekend. Wish me luck.

the wormery

We are proudly presenting our new fully working wormery. There is about 15 000 of pretty wriggly worms inside. Olaf is delighted to have a pet and to sacrifice his food for the better cause. I like the juice. Florian loves the worms. Baba is not allowed to mess with them.

Big thanks to Patricia and Christian for passing them to us and good luck in Chile!

pure magic

We have been putting up a yurt today in this garden. For a while we thought we landed in Portugal. No road access to houses, just steep, tiny dirt paths. All houses and palaces (yes!) made of same beige stone. Another best place on Earth to live in?

Check it out on Google Streetview, too:

book in, book in

Best holiday destination this year! Hot and not a single drop of rain for the last month! There is plenty to see and do and we'd love to share it. We are 5 minutes walk away from three nature reserves and 15 min drive to Bath. Good food and drinks + yoga class every morning. And Bristol is stunning - but who wants to go to the city when it is so warm?

Drop us a line and we'll book you in.

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery - children's play area: step into the frame.

We are all excited about M Shed museum opening in June.

treat of the week

Whoever visits us first: we are going there for lunch!

down the valley

We went to Bath yesterday. From now on it is the second place on Mother Earth that I want to live (just after this). Unfortunately we haven't seen the Roman Baths or even the Crescent, not to mention the Circus or even the bloody river. We've seen nothing but we loved it. And the playground...
